A friend of mine shared during breakfast recently that his parents lived their life in denial about major health issues until they died. I heard some nobel winning economists recently use the same type of words about our economy. They compared the stock market going up to cocaine where we lose control of our reasoning ability. It is a piece of the trance that we all must find a way out of. In our everyday political world we spend a lot of time arguing about hot buttom items like abortion, gay marriage and the Middle East as if these are the most important issues that we must deal with.

I just returned from a 7 day Pachamama Gathering. I am exhausted, full of hope, full of despair and very much wanting to briefly share my experience. Here is my attempt. I hope that my notes were accurate.

The current disclosure of the airport bathroom arrest of another anti-gay politician reminds me of the old trite statement. "The Bigger the Front the Bigger the Back." It is a good time to review what Professor Jung taught us about the SHADOOOOOOOW. (These thoughts are not restricted to just anti-gay politicians or any political party.)

Coming Out of The Shadow
I really do believe that we live in amazing times. I told Margaret Wheatley a few years ago that I am very hopeful for the future because I am hanging out with so many amazing people. Margaret put her hand on my arm and told me that my only problem is that I am hanging out with all the right people. Well there are even more of you today and I am feeling even more hopeful.

The question I have for this weeks newsletter is- Why are we not feeling the terror of global warming? Science Educator David Suzuki was asked last Friday night whether he feels hope? He answered that he and is wife go to bed every night in tears over their fear for the future and their belief that they are not doing enough. In the morning they see their grandchildren and again feel hope.

I am feeling a lot of hope about the future today. Hope is one of those words in need of re-definition. At a minimum it must include a meaningful awareness of the situation that we face plus a faith that the universe is capable of responding to the situation. I think hope is the critical first step towards empowerment.
